Maybe you are like me and have waited years to get a Kitchen Aid Mixer. I still don't have one yet and I haven't stopped dreaming, but for now I've found the most darling hand mixer!!!

I love it!!! It's from Sunbeam and it comes in beautiful beige with a quirky stand and countertop style.

Mine is sitting in my kitchen, giving off lots of charm.

The Drapery Lady

I recently saw a story on "The Tarheel Traveler" about a sweet ninety year old lady,

Addilene Leonard of Franklin County North Carolina...

She has been sewing curtains for over half a century and though she is retired from her drapery shop she is still using her talents to be a blessing...

....now Addilene sews drapes for shelters, ministeries, and those in need...

as well as making dresses for children in Haiti...

Summer Crafts

My parents recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary and received this pretty Tiffany vase.
I thought I would fill it with a pretty flower arrangement.

So here is what I came up with after a trip to the craft store...

In my post about estate sales I also shared these fabric swatches....

...which I made into a table runner.

It still needs some finishing touches, but I love all the blue patterns!

I recently inherited the dining table from my grandparents.

I'll be using it for the first time when I get settled in Dallas!

It's a vintage expand-o-matic which folds into a pretty sideboard.

And the chairs are vintage leg-o-matics (popular on ebay and etsy right now).

Summer Estate Sales ~

One of my favorite hobbies has become even more fun as I seem to have stumbled upon what may be the "Estate Sale" capital of the U.S. - Dallas, Texas. I went alittle crazy this weekend and mapped out my adventure using a new fav website GarageSaleFinder.com I'll start by sharing my finds from the Estate Sale across the street from my parents house in Sugar Land, Texas.

I got some amazing deals!

A lovely chandelier....

...a wrought iron garden bunny, Christmas decor (berry garland and grapevine reindeer),

decorative silver tray, pot rack, monogrammed handkerchief, and Johnson Brother's English China.

I got this Thanksgiving China for a steal and am still wondering if I should try to sell it on ebay.

It's a twelve piece set of dishes and they are valued alot more than what I paid for them.

I love the idea of having special holiday plates though, so we'll see!

Notice below there are round dinner plates and eight square salad/dessert

plates in a coordinating Thanksgiving pattern and very gently used!

Now to my Dallas finds...

Here are some great fabric samples that I've already made into a table runner...(a post to come!)

I found a pair of these sconces at an estate sale in a $2.5 million home near the Dallas Country Club

Now to one of my favorite finds! I'm looking forward to making a wall of pink and blue flowered paintings.
I love the pink flowered tree in this painting as well as the fact that the artist

signed her name "Granny, 1967." Precious!

Here are two more paintings for my wall of treasures.

I also got some great flowered towels, blue and white linens, and ceiling medallion for $1.50

(I'll be using this with the chandelier from the Sugar Land estate sale!).

And I just love my little beagle in the picture! She's my sweetie pie!

The large painting was $10!!!! I haven't decided if I will keep the frame on it or not.

It is so fun to think about using my new finds to decorate once I get settled in Dallas come August!

I hope this inspires you to research some estate sales and go looking for treasures!

Market Imports~ a fun Raleigh Find!

I only recently heard about Market Imports at the Raleigh Farmer's Market from my friend Mikel. If you live in the Triangle, you must check it out! It is a treasure trove of decor for home and garden!

My friend April (over at Cup of Delight) and I explored the 2 acre grounds this past Saturday!

I can never get enough of finials and garden decor...these are great!

Lucky Day~ An Outing to the High Point Furniture Market

I was lucky enough to get a pass (very hard to come by!) last week for the Hight Point Furniture Market. I had a wonderful time with Anonymous friend (and source of my pass) checking out exhibitor after exhibitor for some great furniture pieces! Of course I only looked, but I got some great ideas!

I had only recently heard about the Furniture Market in High Point. Here is a great description of what it is from a High Point native...

Wisteria Update!

Okay, so it has been over two months since my fun trip to Wisteria Outlet in Dallas and I have not shared my finds! Here they are all settled in the Raleigh house before I move them back to Dallas. I can't believe I am moving in seventeen days, auuhh!

Life is Ouch...

Yes I have been out of the blogospher for over a month now. I think I was just too exhausted to prepare a post. And this picture explains it so well...it was almost like I was trying to carry a big acorn above my head, or at least something rather large.

So do you ever have times in your life where everything is going wrong, where life is totally kicking your butt? Well that has been me for the last few months. I think at one point I had a list of ten things that were absolutely overwhelming me. I was thinking, "seriously God, why is this happening?" But one by one God kept stepping in and speaking truth to my heart about these different areas. He assured me He was walking with me through the uncomfortableness, the burdens, the awkwardness, the loss, and the grief.

So this is a picture of what I hope that God has been helping me to do. Running joyfully in the pain. Not away from it, but remaining in God through it. And thankfully there really is alot to smile about :)

Enter Best Friend. Aren't you glad God didn't desire for us to walk through life alone? I'm so thankful for such amazing friends who encourage me and speak truth to me about life.

So this is me peeking through the blossoms expectant to see what God has in store, reminded of how He walks with me and lives life with me all the time. He shows me the path to take.

And this is me relaxing and being myself, basking in my heavenly Father's love for me. Looking to see where He is at work so I can jump on board.

And this just makes me smile because I have an amazing best friend!

A few years ago I picked up some scripture cards published by Beth Moore that have Bible verses that
go along with different topics. The verses I read yesterday were so sweet and timely.

I hope you'll read these prayers taken from scripture and let God's Words just encourage
your heart wherever you are at or whatever you are feeling today....

Mighty God~ be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go;
give the command to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress. (Psalm 71:3)

Lord God, according to your word, my "light and momentary" troubles in (relation to eternity)

are achieving for me an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So I fix my eyes not on what is seen,
but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Lord, in my heart I plan my course, but You determine my steps. (Proverbs 16:9) Life is not going as I planned.

I am so grateful that You are not caught off guard. You know everything that would befall me.

Please direct my steps as You determine. I need You, Lord. Carry me when I cannot walk.

Is there heartbreak or loss, joy or sorrow that you are walking through right now? Ask God to walk with you through it. Be encouraged that He is with you this very moment feeling your joy, your pain, or your sorrow. He is a God who sees you and He walks beside you.

Wisteria Outlet ~

Well I made it to the Wisteria Outlet sale in Dallas this morning! It was alot of fun and a quick trip.

I'm in Louisiana now headed back to North Carolina, but I thought I'd upload some of the photos from the shopping trip.

I took tons of pics but unfortunately my camera was in action mode :(

I think you'll get the idea though! I had a great time!

Yes they were selling four baskets for $21!

I looove this bench!

Finials were marked $8 but were even cheaper when I got to the register!

The warehouse was huge! And all the workers were so friendly and helpful!

Can't wait to show you what I found! UPDATE!!!! The sale is now going on till Feb 19th!~

Tomorrow, Lord willing, I am heading over to the Wisteria Outlet in
Dallas before I start on my trip across country to the Carolinas.

It's an Ikea for non-Ikea lovers. And I am sooo excited!!!!

Okay so I grew up sewing and having it missing from my life for so many years has really made me sad. But now I am back and better than ever, ha. Actually I just got my sewing machine serviced and I should be ready to go.

Here are a few things I made with some shabby sheets that I found at Marshalls...

The sheets were for a twin bed so I made an extra pillow case, a decorative pillow, hanger covers, and curtains!!!

I love how the sheets go so well with the bedspread and some Salvation Army finds I have displayed on the bedside table.

This is my parent's guest room that I've been decorating, but once I am back home next week I can't wait to finish up some upholstery and some pillows that I have been dying to work on!

This pillow was so fun and easy to make! I love the ruffles!

This is a new favorite shirt and it finally warmed up mid week so I could wear it. I love nautical themes so this is a fun outfit for me and makes me enjoy wearing my hair in a ponytail for some reason! I'm still limited by a hand me down camera but these are the best lighting shots I could get.

Why-er Hang-ger! (and Shabby Sheets!)

Just a fun little craft I did tonight...

Look very closely and you can see the outline of a hanger.

Yep I sewed around it!

I used an old plastic & wire hanger, covered it with fabric, sewed around the edges,
and used pinking sheers to finish it off. Plus I added a bow to top off the dainty-ness!

And wallah a fun little hanger to use as a gift....or perhaps I'll make a whole set.

This swatch of fabric will be showing up in other crafts as well! It is actually a sheet set that I got recently on clearance.
And I love it! The set is called White Blossom from Hillcrest.

After Christmas Sales!

Okay so I'm super excited to share with you what I got at after-Christmas sales for 50% 60% and 75 % off.

Here ya go... (and it is all decor of course!)

Precious little pink trees at Michael's for under $2, Cranberry Wreath at Pier One (this was a splurge at around $20, but it is a great investment and the cranberries are super big and glittery!), lovely holly candle wreath, and cranberry pics (both from Michael's)

Snagged this candle wreath at Tuesday Morning for $4

Did you notice the amazing paper church??? I think it will look great with the pink trees...again around $3-$4 at Tuesday Morning.

So here is my hint: after holiday sales are the best way to save on decorations!!! I especially love Tuesday Morning. I've snagged some great vintage Easter decor there in the past. It's always a good idea to check their sale section for last seasons decor. You may find some great finds!

Cluttered Closet to Organized Collection ~

Over the holidays I've stayed at my parent's home. Here are a few nooks in my old room that I love...

Well no matter where I am I can't stand not organizing something, so I decided to clean out my old closet and try to organize it a bit. Of course I just may have been inspired by a trip to the Container Store!

I was super excited to find these sweet boxes at Marshalls and knew they would work perfectly to organize the shelves! I also found some matching hangers, so keep an eye out below!

Here I removed the fabric from an old lampshade and flipped it over to make a basket to hold purses and shoes.

I also picked up a bin to put toys in for my niece when she visits.

It is alot more organized than it used to be, and I love it!

Magnolia Garland ~ All Done!

I love how the Magnolia garland turned out! It took about six hours but it was alot of fun and worth it! I also decorated the outdoor light by the front door.

Here's the amazing pile of magnolia I had to work with...

I cut small clusters off the branches....

... used green floral wire and a multi-purpose cutting tool that cut the branches and the wire...

Placed large branches together to make 20 feet of garland, secured them together with wire, added extra clusters to fill it in,

and placed holly leaves & berries in for color...

I found some inexpensive bows at the craft store for around 60 cents to top it off...

Such a fun gift to give my brother and sister-in-law to decorate their new home! Click here to see my inspiration. Merry Christmas!

Magnolias Galore!

I arrived at my brother's house yesterday and to my delight they had just had their large magnolia tree cut back. I thought it would be so neat to make some Christmas decorations out of the magnolia leaves and branches. Well I forgot about it today until their neighbor came over and asked for some of the leaves to decorate with. It was a great reminder to get started!

Elle Decor

I started getting Elle Decor this Fall and was alittle concerned that it was too modern for me. I'm glad it will push the limits of what I feel comfortable with in design.

Well you can't imagine my glee when I received the Dec/Jan issue and saw this rustic cover a mixture of modern and traditional style.

DIY: Christmas Swag

I've been inspired lately by all the Christmas swags I've seen on blogs and at a sweet home design store near my parent's home. I asked the guy at the counter at the local design store how much the swag on their front door was. It was $399!!! Of course I wasn't really going to buy it, I just wondered how much they were charging.

I wanted to make a swag for my parent's front door so I headed to Hobby Lobby and Michaels to pick up supplies...here's the finished product...

I just cut several lengths from an eight foot garland, made a large bow for the top, and decorated with all kinds of Christmas pics (ornaments, silver bells, red feathers, and a small birds nest). I secured it all with green floral wire. I think it looks great on their front door. And such a better price at under $30!

A Day with Eddie (Ross) at Charlotte Metrolina

Yes, I've been terribly behind on blogging lately. To catch up, here are some shots from the shopping excursion to Charlotte with designer, Eddie Ross, and fun group of shoppers at Charlotte Metrolina.

Eddie used to work for Martha Stewart and contributes to Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Woman's Day, and HGTV to name a few. Well I was so excited about spending a day with him and his partner, Jaithan in Charlotte, NC. As a birthday gift I received a spot to attend the shopping trip!

Eddie led us around the Charlotte Metrolina show. At this booth he talked to us about purchasing vintage fabrics, notions, and buttons to decorate with...

Some of the things I loved seeing...

Eddie really inspired me to consider using vintage linens to decorate with. Here he explained how he covered a headboard with a vintage tablecloth for a little girl's room.

My favorite..chenille! I asked him how to decorate with it. I have a piece that I found an estate sale last year. I loved his recommendation to lay it at the end of a bed as a blanket. I think using it as a bedcover is too fru fru for me.

Well today is a very special day for me in North Carolina, because Eddie Ross is here!!!

Yes! I'm going on a flea market shopping excursion with designer Eddie Ross and about twenty other shoppers at the CharlotteMetrolinaFleaMarket!!!

I can't wait to update you with all the details!!! But gotta go and get ready!!!

A Girlish Powder Room ~

The hall bathroom has been in transition for several years. That's the best part of decorating ~ trying new things and experimenting. Well today on a whim I decided to remove the large mirror in the bathroom that comes standard in most houses. I had purchased this oval mirror at the flea market alittle over a month ago...

The lighting isn't great since I took the photos at night....what do you think?

The lavender used to be on the bracket on the wall, but I placed it by the sink and added a vase of fresh flowers to the bracket.

I love the look of the roses with the ruffled shabby curtain...

Sweet! This rose almost looks like a peony!

Still experimenting but I'll try this look for awhile!

DIY: Cake Stand ~

This is an update on a post I did a few weeks ago... I got this idea from The Little Brown House.

I decided to make my own dollar store cake stands...I purchased 2- dollar store candlesticks and a package of burner covers...

Next I spray painted the burner covers...

...then I used my hot glue gun to mount the covers on the candle sticks...and finally topped it off by hot gluing a pretty ribbon around them...

I wasn't completely satisfied with how they turned out so I purchased some pretty paper at a craft store along with Martha Stewart decoupage glue and I covered the tops.

Chair Photo Shoot

I'm finally ready to share pictures of the chair!!! I've been working on this Goodwill find alot the last couple months. I've borrowed two sewing machines to work on this, was having some problems with them (it could just be me!), and then ended up sewing the rest by hand.

Goodwill Eyesore to Bedroom Beauty~

As I was searching for treasures at Goodwill the other day. I came across this absolutely hideous piece...

I can't even imagine who had this in their home or how they were decorating with it. I am actually really curious! I almost passed up this monstrosity but then I started to see past the hideous colors and realize that the shape was actually quite a nice finial.

So for $3.24 this lovely peace was mine!

I took it home and painted it blue then white, and then finally grey....

So here it is.... please tell me what you think... still hideous or a nice bedroom accent?

Cameron Antique Street Fair

It's a tradition for me to go to the Cameron Antique Street Fair twice a year! It happens on the first Saturday of October and May out in Cameron, North Carolina. And I love it!

I hope you'll enjoy checking it out! It is SO worth the trip if you are in North Carolina! Here I am with my sweet friend Jessica who drove in from Greensboro for the day!

Chair Make-Over STILL in Progress!

I hope to be done with the chair make-over this weekend! Here is what the craft room has been looking like lately as I've been working on the pillows for the chair. And no, I don't know what I'm doing! :)

It has been very slow going! And I am having to borrow friend's sewing machines to finish the job. You are getting a sneak peak of the changes, but I hope the end result will look amazing!

Here's the chair the day she came home from Goodwill...

Not too many hours later...the old upholstery just had to go!

I painted the frame Martha Stewart's "Heavy Goose Grey"...and only needed the small $3 sample size.

I added new batting....this made me so happy just to start from scratch and know it was nice and clean!

stapled it in place with a staple gun...

batting in place...now it is ready to be covered with fabric!

next step covered the chair in fabric...still needs welting on edges...

added welting...it's starting to take on some life...

now at work on the upholstery...making the piping for the pillows...

my little beagle just likes to stick around and watch...

It was a long process and I ended up doing much of the sewing by hand as I had trouble with the machine. Check out the finished photos here!!!!

To be honest, I'm just not a huge fan of Ikea...it was a big deal to go to when I lived overseas. I decorated my flat with inexpensive Ikea decor. But once I got back to the states I've pretty much stayed away. Today though I saw this lovely sideboard, and I thought. Maybe I should give Ikea another chance :)

Regal Beagles

I was recently introduced to the Beagle breed. I adopted a two-year old beagle last spring and she has brought so much joy to my life. Sweet little Addie! She is blind in one eye so she is my sweet half blind beagle. I love her!

This gallery inspired me! I wondered what it would be like to have a wall of beagle art. So I started my search and found a few lovely portraits online. Perhaps one day I'll make a gallery of beagle portraits!

After Work Projects~ cake stand, lavender, and pumpkins

I had a delightful evening tonight! I am on a budget so many of my crafts are being made with dollar store finds. I've also been meaning to plant some flowers lately ...so...

...tonight I planted some lavender....

..decided how I would arrange my dollar store white pumpkins when fall comes around....I love how they look on the fireplace!

And after being inspired by this creative post...I decided to make my own dollar store cake stands...I purchased 2 dollar store candlesticks and a package of burner covers...

I love how they turned out. This is just too easy not to try for yourself!

I took a bag of coins (poor lady at the counter)... $10 was a great deal though!
